That last post didn’t seem any longer than the ones I usually write, and I don’t think it was. It took me about 40-45 minutes to write. And then I dropped it into Pages to save it because I didn’t have an internet connection right then, and it was almost FOUR FREAKING PAGES LONG.

How DO you guys read all this? ;)

poll closed; you win!

Okay, I’ve taken the poll down and turned off the little widget that was making all entries display as excerpts so you had to click through. Final conclusion: of the people who cared about it one way or another enough to vote, the great majority were annoyed by clicking through excerpts and wanted to see full posts at once on the main page.

(How do you feel about my recent experiments in bolding bits of entries for easier reading?)

New toy: Polls!

May19

So, I got tired of seeing my site stats claim that visits were taking 0.00 seconds. I don’t deny that there may be people spending a fraction of a second here before realizing that it wasn’t what they were googling, but I think I can say with a reasonable amount of certainty that if someone comes here from their livejournal friends page, they are probably planning spend more than a quarter-second reading this site.

It seemed like this might be caused by sitemeter and google analytics not counting time spent on site if users aren’t clicking on anything, so I’m experimenting with having the front page display excerpts from each post so people have to click through to read the rest.

But, of course, that might dissuade people from reading more, or annoy the crap out of them. So I also installed a poll! Please take a second to share your opinion of this change over in the sidebar. Thanks for helping!

It’s Money Week here on Facing Abuse!

May2

You may have noticed some commonality between the posts so far this week. I decided to declare it to be Money Week; all the posts between April 27 and May 3rd will have something to do with money or work. I’d like to experiment with focusing for a week at a time on a particular theme for a while. If you have any requests for upcoming theme weeks, post ‘em in the comments!
